Wisdom Paves the Way Summary in English
Four young men, Ram Datt, Shiv Datt, Har Datt, and Dev Datt, are travelling to Ujjain in search of employment, after ten days of travel, tired but determined to find work. Ram Datt hopes to meet the King, and Shiv Datt and Dev Datt agree they must stay united. Har Datt warns that meeting the King won’t be easy and says they need a strategy. Near the city, they spot fresh camel tracks. Ram Datt suggests observing them closely, Shiv Datt notes their freshness, while Har Datt and Dev Datt notice unusual details. They decide to discuss their findings under a large tree when a distressed merchant rushes up, asking about his lost camel.

Ram Datt asks if it is lame, Shiv Datt if it is blind in the right eye, Har Datt about its short tail, and Dev Datt if it has stomach pain. The merchant is surprised by their knowledge but angry when they deny seeing the camel, accusing them of theft and threatening to take the matter to the King. The men agree to go with him. At the palace gates, the merchant speaks to a sentry and is allowed into the palace.

The King of Ujjain listens as a Merchant accuses four travellers, Ram Datt, Shiv Datt, Har Datt, and Dev Datt, of stealing his camel. The Merchant claims the men knew too many details about the missing camel yet deny having seen it. Each man explains his observations. Ram Datt says the camel was lame because its tracks showed three clear prints but one lighter, showing it put less weight on that leg. Shiv Datt believes the camel is blind in its right eye, as it ate leaves only from the left side of the road, leaving the right side untouched. Har Datt notices the camel’s tail was short, having seen blood droplets along the tracks, likely from mosquito bites that a longer tail would have swept away. Dev Datt points out that the faint prints from the hind legs show the camel was in pain and walking carefully because of stomach discomfort.

Impressed by their wisdom, the King declares the Merchant’s accusations false and offers the men positions as his advisers. The four men humbly accept, and the King announces their appointment to the court, where they stand ready to guide Ujjain to prosperity.
