I am writing to bring a very serious matter in the limelight so that the administration is compelled to take action. There is a flyover being built in our colony and I want to draw your attention to the havoc it is creating in our lives.
I would like focus your attention on the plight of the residents near the construction site of the flyover. The flyover has taken toll, in terms of its wide area requirement. During morning peak hours when the activity just starts, one can’t stop feeling suffocated. The dust emanating from the project activity poses health hazards to workers, shopkeepers, pedestrians, commuters especially residents who are complaining of nausea, headache, numbness, chest lightness, respiratory problems, persistent cough, and restriction in activity.
As if this wasn’t enough the project involves axing of decades old Chinars and Mulberry trees which used to attract the attention of people belonging to all corners of life. The remaining roadside vegetation seems to be drenched in dust.
The huge and heavy machinery; drilling, blasting, earthworks, transportation of constructional material adds to the already elevated noise levels which happen to be deafening.
The construction phase of the flyover simply seems to alleviate recurring congestion and create problems for all. Vehicles seem to be squeezing in the leftover available space increasing the wear and tear of the existing roads.
Hazardous wastes also pose a threat and risk, and measures must be taken to dispose them off as per norms. All this provides unsafe environment for the people.
I would request the concerned authority and the traffic controller to look into the matter and resolve the problem at the earliest possible so that the people of the locality do not suffer.

We travel to different places on a daily basis because of our work and we have realized that the number of buses plying in the morning in our area, are not sufficient enough to manage the crowd. Morning hours are the busiest hours in the whole day and many times we all wait for a long time to get the bus.
I have noticed that many people have started exploring the alternate ways of travel like- cabs and private cars but as you know it cannot be an ideal solution of the problem. We have to wait for hours for the buses or trains. Government keeps announcing that so many new buses and trains have been bought but we hardly see any. The ones plying here are in very poor condition and it is dangerous to travel in them.
This letter is to inform you about the problem which we are facing due to insufficient number of local buses in my locality. May I request you to draw urgent attention on this issue through your newspaper as we are paying huge money on alternate modes of travel.

This is to draw your kind attention towards the violence in Indian films which are screened in the various theatres. The screenings of such films have an adverse effect on the student community, who form the major chunk of the viewers. In fact most of these films carry an ‘A’ certifi-cate, which prohibits the adolescent viewers, but the theatre owners flout the norms and give ticket to even such age groups.
Art – music, painting, film, drama, poetry, books – is actually a reflection of society. Films and dramas are meant to entertain the audience and are largely made based on the choices of the viewers. Our film industry is a mirror of our society, showing us where we are going. It’s high time we decided who is to blame for this. We are all responsible for building this structure of society.
Recently I went to watch a film in the theatre, I couldn’t bear to watch the entire movie because of its violence. It was filled with gratuitous violence and inappropriate innuendos that added nothing to the plot. Their sole purpose seemed to be to incite the audience to copy and enact the violence in society. The men made chauvinistic comments.
Films have the amazing potential to teach people important things. It can convey important messages to large audiences. I believe that the story and message of the film should be paid more attention to.
As the editor of fe newspaper that reaches thousands of people, I request you to spread awareness about this issue so that the public can put pressure to bring about a revolution in Indian cinema.

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Tim who loved to climb trees. He would spend hours in the backyard, scaling the branches and enjoying the view from the top. One sunny afternoon, Tim spotted a shiny red apple at the very top of the tallest tree in the garden. Excited by the prospect of picking the apple, he climbed higher and higher until he reached it.
As Tim reached out to grab the apple, he suddenly lost his footing and tumbled to the ground below. He landed with a thud, scraping his knee and bruising his arm. The pain was sharp, and Tim cried out in distress. His parents rushed to his side, comforting him and tending to his injuries. Although Tim was grateful for their care, the experience left him feeling scared and hesitant to climb trees again.
From that day on, Tim was cautious whenever he approached a tree. He would look up at the branches, remembering the fall and the pain it had caused. While he still enjoyed being t outdoors and exploring nature, he no longer rushed into climbing trees without considering the risks. Instead, he approached each tree with care, testing the branches and ensuring his footing was secure before venturing upwards.
Over time, Tim’s fear of climbing trees began to fade, but he remained mindful of the lesson he had learned from his fall. He understood the importance of being cautious and aware of potential dangers, even in activities he enjoyed. While he may have lost some of his reckless bravado, Tim gained a valuable lesson in prudence and safety.
The saying “once bitten, twice shy” perfectly captured Tim’s experience. After falling from the tree and getting hurt, he became more cautious and hesitant to climb again. However, through this experience, he learned to approach activities with greater care and awareness, ensuring his safety and well-being in the future.
ii. You were an eyewitness to a heated argument which turned into a big fight. Narrate what you felt and did at that time.
Answer:
At 11:15 p.m. on a recent weeknight, I was turning off the lights in my apartment to start winding down for sleep when I heard yelling from upstairs. These were angry voices. I was in pajamas, but I opened my front door so I could hear more clearly, and I was greeted with a flurry of abusive words. There I was in my hallway, doing a cost/benefit analysis of intervention-a familiar position.
Anyone who chooses to live in such close proximity to others knows how important it is to create boundaries and respect one another’s privacy. But sometimes the outside encroaches and our neighbours’business becomes our own, whether we like it or not.
Yes, voyeurism can be titillating, but what about unintentional voyeurism, when you’re happily minding your own business and a situation presents itself that you can’t ignore? Your neighbours’ yelling could be just a regular fight, or it could be something more dangerous; that distinction is hard to make when you’re hearing it through a wall.
Harish and Kamini lived downstairs and had a young child. They said the flushing of toilets, showers, moving around upstairs etc often caused their toddler to wake.
Amir and Fatima, who lived above them, said they often heard the toddler crying and the neighbours playing endless videos but tolerated it, saying they believed that the acoustics of the building were inferior and therefore the slightest knock or noise could be heard by neighbours.
On that particular night Amir and Fatima were hosting a family birthday dinner and this proved to e the final straw for Harish and Kamini. During dinner, Amir and Fatima heard an aggressive thumping on the front door, which was embarrassing and disruptive, especially in front of guests.
Fatima said she found Harish at the door; he was agitated and became increasingly abusive about the noise created by guests laughing and the clatter of chairs on the floorboards. He said the noise was making it difficult to settle their child to sleep.
Realising that things were getting out of control I mediated and provided an opportunity for each of the parties to put forward their point of view with me guiding the process. After I talked to them and settled their frayed tempers a bit both parties were able to understand each other’s point of view and came to an agreement about how to deal with noise problems in the future.
The y came to a decision about their behaviour in the future and set down guidelines for noise levels, and also agreed to split the costs of noise reduction flooring in t Amir and Fatima’s property by 30/70 ratio. Most importantly, they reached a consensus on how both the couples would communicate in the future about any noise issues that arose between them. Matters settled amicably and I heaved a sigh of relief and finally was able to rest peacefully in my bed.
iii. ‘Only people who earn a lot of money are said to be successful today.’ Express your views either for or against this statement.
Answer:
Against-
I cannot deny that this is a fact, and that money is needed to improve family life and get access to advanced education, but then I would like to say that money is not everything. If we are sick, our financial position is often the last thing we consider. Money will not make us happy, and what we need is love and care from family and friends.
Although money can buy many material things and worldly pleasures, but it cannot bring peace of mind. Take the example of a billionaire. He was very young. He was found dead. He had made a lot of money when he was alive, but at the end the boy committed suicide because he was not happy, and there was something bothering him and some things cannot be solved with money. This shows that a successful person needs happiness and no matter how much one earns it does not necessarily bring happiness. Success can also be measured by how much a person is loved by his family and friends.
It is wrong to evaluate a person’s success in terms of his monetary worth. Success depends on various factors such as age, goals, and experience. In other words, every person has different ambitions and preferences and their idea of success varies with their age and experience. To illustrate this, a student may find himself successful if he scores well in his exams and an employee can feel successful if he is appreciated by his seniors for executing a project successfully.
Likewise, a rich person may feel successful if he spends enough time with his family. Additionally, there are many professions that do not earn a lucrative salary. Yet, people feel satisfied and successful if they excel in their careers. For example, soldiers might feel successful and proud of their achievements by protecting their country and scientists may feel accomplished when they make great inventions. Obviously, not everyone measures success with money.
To conclude, there is no doubt that money plays an essential role in human lives. However, considering it as the only success parameter is wrong, in my opinion.
iv. You and your family travelled by bus to a village to attend a wedding. Describe a humorous incident that occurred during the journey.
Answer:
The bus rumbled down the highway, crammed full of excited wedding guests, myself and my family included. My little brother, Rohan, was bouncing with anticipation, his nose practically glued to the window. We were heading to a quaint village for our cousin’s wedding, a far cry from our usual city life.
Suddenly, the bus lurched to a halt in the middle of nowhere. Confused murmurs rippled through the passengers. A portly woman with a booming voice, whom we later learned was our aunt Sunita, declared, “Engine trouble, most likely!”
As the minutes stretched into an eternity, the heat inside the bus became unbearable. We were all starting to melt when a rooster, yes, a rooster, hopped on board! It strutted confidently down the aisle, dodging flailing feet and curious stares. It stopped right in front of Rohan, who was mesmerized.
The rooster then proceeded to do what roosters do best – it crowed. A loud, ear-splitting crow that echoed through the stifling bus. The tension broke. Laughter erupted from everyone, a welcome relief from the frustration. Even the bus driver, peeking through the rearview mirror, couldn’t help but crack a smile.
The rooster, seemingly pleased with the attention, crowed again. This time, an old man sitting behind us, known for his grumpy demeanour, mimicked the crow with surprising accuracy. The laughter doubled, and for a while, the stranded bus transformed into a scene from a chaotic comedy.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, a mechanic arrived. While the engine was being fixed, the rooster, the unlikely star of the show, hopped off the bus and disappeared into the nearby fields. The journey resumed, and we reached the wedding a little late, but with a story that would be retold for years to come – the day the rooster became an honorary wedding guest.
