It was a bright and sunny day when we, a group of friends, set out to visit the newly opened theme park. We were all excited to experience the thrill rides and the other attractions that the park had to offer.
As we entered the park, we were greeted by the sight of towering roller coasters, colourful Ferris wheels, and splashing water rides. We couldn’t wait to get started. We headed straight for the roller coaster, which was the biggest and fastest in the park. We all screamed with delight as we zoomed up and down the hills and around the curves.
After the roller coaster, we went on the Ferris wheel. The view from the top was amazing. We could see the entire park and the surrounding countryside. We took lots of pictures to remember the day.
Next, we went on the water ride. We got soaked to the bone, but we didn’t care. We were 7 having too much fun.
We spent the rest of the day riding rides and exploring the park. We were all having a great time.
Suddenly, the sky darkened and the wind picked up. We looked up and saw that a cyclonic storm was approaching. We knew that we had to find shelter quickly.
We ran to the nearest building, which was a souvenir shop. We huddled together in the back of the shop, waiting for the storm to pass. The wind howled outside and the rain beat against the windows. We were all scared, but we were glad that we were safe. Waiting – we seemed to wait for hours and hours. We just wanted it to be over. But we did not know how violent that storm was going to get. We couldn’t really see what it was doing in the dark, but boy could we hear it!
Initially the winds just became stronger slowly. It built slowly but then picked up momentum.
We felt like a giant hand shookthe shop, harder, and harder and harder. It was just like contractions that strengthen and strengthen as the birth of the eye of the storm nears. Only the mother of this storm was feral wind gusts, that lifted vehicles, peeled tin off the roofs and sheds, as if it was one tremendous tin opener that descended from the sky and went on a rampage through our homes.
We felt like we were in a jumbo jet at times and our house was going to fly away. We could hear things banging and blowing, knocking into things. We heard the sound of the wind gremlins under the house, shifting and knocking things so that the cyclone hit us from the floor as well as above and sideways.
Nowhere felt safe as the cyclone built and built its strength. We prayed. And finally it ended as suddenly as it had begun. After what seemed like an eternity, the storm finally passed. We emerged from the souvenir shop to find that the park had been transformed. The ground was covered in mud and debris. Trees had been knocked down and rides had been damaged. It looked like someone had just hurled everything randomly around in a violent fit of temper.
We were all shaken up, but we were unharmed. We decided to head back home. We were glad to have escaped the storm unscathed.
The experience of being caught in a cyclonic storm was one that I will never forget. It was a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of being prepared for anything.

iv. You had stepped out of a shop when you saw an accident on the road in front of the shop. Describe the scene of the accident and what you did to help the injured.

My mother and I had gone shopping for summer clothes to the crowded market near our house. After buying what we needed we were just stepping out of the shop when I heard the sound of a collision. I looked at the place from where the sound came and to my dismay saw an accident on the road in front of the shop. A car had collided with a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist was lying on the ground, bleeding. The car driver was also injured, but he was able to get out of his car.
I immediately ran over to the motorcyclist and checked his pulse. He was still alive, but he was unconscious. I then checked for any other injuries, and I saw that he had a broken leg and there was a laceration on his head. He was unconscious and it seemed to me he had suffered a head injury as well.
I knew that I needed to call for help, so I ran back into the shop and asked someone to call 911. While I was waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I stayed with the motorcyclist and tried to make him comfortable by opening his shoes and belt. I also put pressure on his head wound to stop the bleeding.
When the ambulance arrived, the paramedics took over and treated the motorcyclist’s injuries and I could see he was regaining consciousness. They then loaded him onto a stretcher and took him to the hospital.
I also gave the car driver a glass of water and helped him to sit down. He was shaken up, but he was not seriously injured. It appeared that the motorcyclist had lost balance while overtaking and had banged into the car.

I was glad that I was able to help the injured people in the accident. It was a scary situation, but I am glad that everyone turned out okay.

Flood is one of the highly devastating natural calamities. It is a regular phenomenon in India. Every year thousands of lives are lost in flood. Lakhs of people are rendered homeless. Property worth cores of rupees washed away. Floods were just tales in the book to me until I actually faced it. It was devastating to see a society being shattered because of floods and many lives being lost.
The sight of flood affected area is horrible. Last July I got an opportunity to visit my ancestral village in Darbhanga district of Bihar. My uncle lives there. I was caught in flood. At the same time, I got a chance to have a horrible experience there. One night I was fast asleep, suddenly I woke up to hear a loud noise. Water had entered the house.
The barrage on the Gandak River had broken and the river was overflowing its bank. People were fleeing for their lives. My uncle’s house is a three-storeyed building. People had come there to have a rescue. I was also woken up from the sleep, as I had slept in the ground floor. I along with so many people was asked to move to the second floor.
People were alarmed. They were mostly those people living in mud huts. They were crying for their belongings. They had fled empty handed. They had left all their belongings in their homes which were certain to be washed away by the flood.
In the morning, I went to the third floor to have an overview of the scene. I was shocked to see the terrible sight. There was nothing except water there. In some far-off places huts appeared as tiny small toys. Poles, pillars and trees were submerged in water.
At some remote places people were standing on the roof top to escape from being washed away in flood. A large number of cattle were seen being flown away in mighty current of flood. Standing crops in large expanse of areas were washed away. There were no activities. Life seemed to have come to a halt.
People had nothing to eat. Therefore food packets were being dropped for them. There was an occasional noise of flying helicopters. The flood victims had rays of hope in their eyes to get something to eat. The next day the administration made arrangement for the food and shelter of those victims. The ravage of the flood continued for two-three days. Then the water began to recede.
People took a sigh of relief. There was joy of returning to their homes. At the same time they had the bigger challenge to re-start their lives. Mending their homes, arranging their cattle, starting agriculture, were a few questions which they had to solve. Though the government gives financial relief to the flood victims, unfortunately, they fail to reach the needy and the targeted. They are sucked in mid-way.
The tragic scene of flood has haunted my mind. I still shudder at the mere thought of those scenes. But to millions of Indians this is a stark reality which they are destined to face routinely every year.
The experience of it was truly devastating and saddening. After facing the experience, I think that a lot of measures should be taken to prevent the floods. Through the tech machines, the impact of floods should be predicted and for the rehabilitation of people, proper measures should be taken by the government to relocate the people to a new place, until the present effected place is restored. The place is not only the matter of concern but people too where the people should be consoled or counselled because of the devastation they have faced.
In order to make sure that nothing of this sort happens again, a lot of precautionary measures should be takei by the government where they should keep a special service ready for emergency situations and the hospitals should also be ready to handle such situations efficiently. Last but not the least, we as a society should also take active measures in making our environment neat and clean.

In spite of a violent attack of gout in the night and the nervous exhaustion left by it, Kistunov, a banker went in the morning to the bank and began attending to persons who had come with petitions. He looked exhausted and spoke in a faint voice.
“What can I do for you?” he asked a lady.
“Your Excellency,” the lady began, “My husband Shtchukin, a collegiate assessor, was ill for five months, and while he was laid up at home, he was for no sort of reason dismissed, and when I went for his salary, they deducted, twenty-four roubles thirty-six kopecks from his salary. ‘What for?’ I asked. ‘He borrowed from the club fund, they told me and the other clerks had stood security for him. How was that? It is impossible. I am a poor woman, I earn my bread by taking in lodgers. I am a weak defenceless woman.”
Kistunov replied that she has come to the wrong place. Her petition has nothing to do with the bank. She will have to apply to the department in which her husband was employed. The lady said that she had been to five places already. But her son-in-law, advised her to see Kistunov as he is an influential man and can help her.
“We can do nothing for you, Madame. You must understand: your husband served in the Army Medical Department, and our establishment is a purely private commercial undertaking, a bank”, replied Kistunov.
Kistunov was conscious of the palpitation of his heart. With a face of anguish, pressing his hand on his heart, he began explaining to Madame Shtchukin again, but his voice failed him.
“Now, excuse me, I cannot talk to you,” he said with a wave of his hand. “My head’s going round. You are hindering us and wasting your time.” He asked his clerk, Alexey, to explain to Madame Shtchukin.
Kistunov went to his room and as he sat there, he could hear two voices: the monotonous restrained bass of Alexey and the shrill wailing voice of Madame Shtchukin.
Half an hour later Kistunov called Alexey and enquired about the lady.
“We can’t make her see anything”, replied Alexey. “We are simply done.”
Kistunov opened the door and looked into the office.
Madame Shtchukin, as red as a crab, was standing in the middle of the room, rolling her eyes and prodding the air with her fingers. The bank clerks were standing round, red in the face too, and, evidently harassed, were looking at each other distractedly.
“Very good, madame,” moaned Kistunov. “I will go into it… Please go away!”
Madame Shtchukin listened to him and sighed.
Everything began swimming before Kistunov’s eyes. He breathed out all the air in his lungs in a prolonged sigh and sank helpless on a chair.
