The Living Root Bridges, Meghalaya: These bridges are built by the local people of Meghalaya using intertwined roots that showcase marvellous engineering accomplishment. These bridges are a solution to crossing waterways during monsoons and can last for hundreds of years. They represent the deep connection and knowledge the local people have with their environment. The often rise almost 50 to 100 feet in the air.
The Lonar Crater Lake, Maharashtra: This geological wonder is a giant hole formed thousands of years ago when a huge meteorite crashed into Earth. It’s India’s only crater formed in basaltic rock by a meteorite impact and ranks among the top five largest craters globally. The lake at its center is saline, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding terrain.
Magnetic Hills, Leh District, Ladakh: Magnetic Hills are almost 30 km away from Leh, a place where gravity seems to take a backseat! Vehicles parked at a specific spot appear to roll uphill, moving at almost 20 km/h, all due to the unique alignment of the surrounding slopes, the horizon and the optical illusion.
Glowing Waters of Kerala: In the serene backwaters of Kumbalangi village, you can witness magically glowing waters at night. This phenomenon, called bioluminescence, is caused by a high concentration of tiny marine organisms called micro-planktons. This beautiful sight has made Kumbalangi an eco-tourism village.
The Sundarbans: This is a vast mangrove forest in West Bengal that lies in the Ganges Delta in the Bay of Bengal, where trees take root underwater in low-oxygen soil. The roots help stabilize the coastline and reduce erosion. The Sundarbans is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, including the majestic Bengal tiger and other threatened species like the estuarine crocodile.
The Invisible Chandipur Beach, Odisha: This beach has a unique feature: the sea mysteriously disappears and reappears! During ebb tide (the time between high and low tide), the seawater retreats by 2-5 km, and then returns to the shore at high tide.
