Anita was a 14-year-old girl. She had a younger brother called Anand, who was younger to her by a year. Anand thought of himself as a scientist. He tinkered with all sort of gadgets, tools, etc. He made inventions that never worked out. One day, when their parents had gone out, Anand made a burgler alarm. He fit the alarm to the door.
When someone opened the door stealthily, the alarm will be activated. There will be a clanging of bells, and water will pour on the person who opened the door, from a bag. By this time you can call the police to have him arrested.
One day Anand tried to test device, and fitted it to the door. His dad had the habit of opening the door softly. When the father came back from the office, he opened the door softly and the water from the water bag poured on his head. Father was in great anger. He searched for Anand, but he had run away and hid himself.
A fortnight passed. Anand decided to invent something again. This time it was a time machine. He started working furiously for a fortnight and came up with a device. Anand’s father warned him not to test the device, as he had a bad experience with the burglar’s alarm. But, Anand assured him that there would be no mishap this time.
Anand’s parents left for Kharagpur and would come back the next evening. At 11.30 p.m. Anita heard a scratching on the door. Both children were afraid to open the door. Suddenly, the door opened and Boppa, the local sweeper, stood in front of them. He held a cudgel in his hand and threatened them to be quiet. Instead of directing him to his father’s room, Anand directed him to his own room.
All of a sudden there was a crash followed by a loud scream. Boppa had entered the room and turned on the time machine. The noise from room increased. Both the children shouted for help. Mrs. Sharma and her husband arrived on the scene, and enquired what the matter was. The green scarf that Boppa was wearing, was lying on the floor. Dr. Mohan started searching for Boppa but he was nowhere to be seen. Anand claimed that his time machine has consumed Boppa. Later Anand’s time machine was dismantled. Anand decided to launch a new project.
