A Bottle of Dew Class 6 Summary in English
Rama Natha was the son of a rich landlord. His father left him large areas of land, but he did not bother to took after the land because he believed that there was magic potion, a liquid with magical properties that could turn anything into gold.
He wanted to get gold without putting in any effort. So day and night he tried to learn more about the magical liquid. He was cheated by many people who promised to tell him about the magical liquid. His wife Madhumati did not believe in his idea of the magic potion and was worried that he would waste all his wealth in looking for it.
Rama Natha became the follower of a famous sage Mahipati who had come to their town. He asked the sage about the potion. Rama Natha was overjoyed because the sage told him that he too had heard about the potion.
Mahipati told Rama Natha to plant a banana plant, water it regularly himself and then collect the morning dew from the leaves and store it in a bottle. The sage told Rama Natha that when five litres has been collected he should bring it to him.
The saga said that he would chant some magic words and convert the dew into the magic potion. Rama Natha was very happy because now he did not have to work and would get gold by just using the magic liquid.
Rama Natha’s only worry was that it would take many years to collect five litres of dew. Instead of planting one sapling of banana he planted rows and rows of banana plants after clearing the fields.
He worked extremely hard, he tended the plants, watered them and collected dew everyday. It took him six long years to collect five litres of dew. He took the dew to the sage. The sage muttered few words over the water.
Happily Rama sprinkled a few drops on a copper vessel, but nothing happened. Rama was angry he said he had wasted six years of his life. The sage Mahipati called Madhumati. She came with a box full of gold coins.
Mahipati told Rama Natha there was no magic potion that could turn things into gold, only hard work could. The sage played a trick on Rama Natha and made him work hard.
Rama Natha understood that there was no substitute for hard work. The harder you work the luckier you get. So, he worked harder on his plantation.
