Jellyfish Read the following passage carefully.

Jellyfish are not really fish. They have no heart, no brain, no kidney, no lungs or gills, no blood—- none of the organs we think are needed to live. They have a mouth, tentacles and tissues which digest food. Tentacles are body parts which are used by animals to feel, catch a prey or move.

Jellyfish live in the sea and are found in all oceans. Some jellyfish live in fresh water. Jellyfish are mostly made up of water and their inside parts are held in place by a thin layer of skin. Jellyfish looks like umbrella. A group of jellyfish is called a ‘bloom’, ‘swarm’ or ‘smack’. Jellyfish eats plankton. Some sea turtles eat jellyfish.

Wood-Pecker
Read the following passage.

1. A wood-pecker is a small bird with a bunch of red feathers on its head. It has a very strong and sharp s beak. These birds are omnivorous and eat fruits, tree saps and insects. Woodpeckers are colourful and beautiful birds, well-known for pecking the wood of trees with their pointed beaks. And this unique characteristic of these birds does justice to their name: woodpecker. You will often see a wood-pecker making holes on a tree trunk.

2. In order to make holes in tree trunks, it first finds a rotten tree trunk, it then clings to the bark. Next, it hits hard against the wood with its beak for hours. The wood-pecker then finds wood-lice or other insects. These insects are its food. The wood-pecker also digs holes in tree-trunks to make a nest.

Rabindranath Tagore
Read the following passage carefully.

1. Rabindranath Tagore, the Bengali poet, is one of the greatest writers of India. He was born in a rich, Bengali family in Calcutta. His father’s name was Devendranath Tagore.

2. Tagore was interested in writing stories and poems since his childhood. As an adult he wrote many novels, plays, poems and short stories. He received the Nobel Prize for his book Gitanjali, which is a collection of poems.

3. Rabindranath Tagore founded a school called ‘Shanti. Niketan’ and a university called “Vishwabharathi”. He has GITANJALI created our national anthem. His song ‘Golden Bengalis the national anthem of Bangladesh.

The Tiger
Read the following passage carefully.

1. There are five different kinds of tigers alive in the world today. They are the Siberian tiger, South Chinese tiger, Indo Endangered Chinese tiger, Bengal tiger and Sumatran Animal Facts tiger. Unlike lions, tigers prefer to live alone, except for mothers who live with cubs. They are the biggest cats in the world. The best known tigers are found in India and are called ‘The Royal Bengal Tigers!

2. Wild tigers eat as much as 40 pounds of meat at one time. After that they do not eat for several days. A full grown tiger weighs about 230 kgs. and may be 10ft. long including its 3ft. long tail. They can run only short distances. They can run upto a speed of 35 miles per hour. Cheetahs run much faster because their bodies are slim and weightless. But a tiger’s body is heavy so they cannot run so fast.

3. Tigers hunt at night. They do not run after their prey but sneak up to their prey and then attack it. They are excellent swimmers.
4. Tigers are declared to be an endangered species. This is a result of poaching and a loss of habitat of tigers.
