Growing food requires a lot of labour and water. It is a gift from nature for our survival. If we waste food, we waste the natural resources and the gift of nature that has been given to us. Ways to reduce food waste at home are:
- Do not buy too much perishables.
- Store leftover food in refrigerator for another day.
- Do not cook too much quantity of food.

Write the recipe of your favourite dish.

My favourite dish is ‘Bhelpuri’. To make Bhelpuri, we take the following ingredients:
- 2 cups puffed rice
- 1 cup of boiled and diced potatoes
- 1 cup of diced onions
- 1 cup of diced tomatoes
- 2 spoons of tamarind chutney
- ½ spoon of green chutney
- ½ cup roasted peanuts
- 2 spoons chopped coriander
- Salt to taste
Mix all the ingredients in a big bowl. Add the tamarind and green chutney and mix well. Sprinkle salt and chopped coriander on top. Yummy Bhelpuri is ready to eat.
Question 3.
Write a name of a food item that includes both plant and animal based ingredients. For example, lassi includes yogurt/curd which is prepared from milk (animal based ingredient) and sugar which is prepared from sugarcane (a plant based ingredient).

‘Kheer’, Kheer includes milk which is animal based ingredient and sugar and rice. Sugar and rice both are plant based ingredients.

When guests visit suddenly, I would serve simple, easy to prepare and light foods that can be made quickly like tea, juice, dried fruits, fruit salad, bhelpuri and vegetable pulao. I choose these food items because these items are easy to digest, refreshing and have less preparation time.
