Nouns
Nouns are naming words. They are names of people, places, animals or things. For example
1. Ashish is a Class 2nd student.
2. Delhi is a big city.
In the above sentences, ‘Ashish’ and ‘Delhi’ are Nouns.
Meesha, Mrs Jones, Peacock, the Sun, House, Star, Ice-cream, Dog, etc. are examples of nouns.

Exercise II
Nouns can have singular as well as-plural forms. When there are more than one object, we use the plural form of noun. Bananas, Flowers, trucks all have ‘s’ added to the word. But some plural words do not change even in plural form, such as sheep.

Nouns can also be categorised as Countable and Uncountable Nouns.
Some nouns such as monkey, cat, spoon can be counted and are thus called Countable Nouns. Similarly, some other nouns such as salt, leaves or water cannot be counted. So, they are called Uncountable Nouns.

Verbs
A verb is a word that denotes an action.
A verb is an action or doing word.
For example
1. Raghav is playing.
2. Radha is writing letters.
In the above sentences ‘playing’ and ‘writing’ are verbs.
The words shine, play, eats, cooks, sings, cry, writing etc. are examples of verbs.

Articles
An Article is a word that is used before a noun to point out whether the noun refers to something specific or not. ‘A’, ‘An’ and ‘The’ are the three articles which are used in the English language.

Pronouns
Pronouns are the words used in place of Nouns.
Example Rita is a good girl. I like Rita.
Instead of using nouns in both sentences, we con use a pronoun.
Rita Is a good girl. I like her.
Here, ‘her’ is a pronoun used for Rita.
Some commonly used pronouns are

As nouns are naming words, adjectives are ‘describing words’. They tell us more about a noun.
